Peskov said the NYT misinterpreted his words about the 2024 elections
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said The New York Times (NYT) misinterpreted his words, attributing to him the words of Vladimir Putin’s re-election next year with support of more than 90% of the vote.
The day before, the publication published an article in which Peskov quotes, in one of which he allegedly called the elections in Russia “not so much a democracy, but an “expensive bureaucracy”, and the President of the Russian Federation “will be re-elected with more than 90% of the votes.”
“No, this was absolutely incorrectly interpreted by the author of this article,” Putin’s spokesman said.
Peskov confirmed that he met and talked with the journalist of the American edition, but the answer to his question was completely different. He clarified that he said that the level of consolidation of Russian society around Putin is unprecedented, and if he is nominated, now we can say that he will be re-elected with a huge advantage.
In addition, Peskov noted that all his words during the commentary were personal opinions.
