Peskov commented on the timing of the “direct line” with Putin

Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin is “slowly” preparing for the “straight line”, but did not name the timing of it.

“We said that as soon as we decide, we will immediately announce the terms. We have not announced any dates. We are slowly preparing for it. When the time comes, we will certainly inform you,” Peskov said.

He also noted that it is not worth running ahead of the announcement of Vladimir Putin’s decision to participate in the elections. “The elections have their own schedule and the beginning of the election campaign. This will be announced in due course. There is no need to get ahead of ourselves here,” Peskov added.

Formerly “Kommersant” informedthat a “straight line” with Putin this year may take place in November-December. Such a decision, according to sources, may be related to the situation in the zone of the special operation. At the same time, the event must be held before the announcement of the presidential elections, which the Federation Council must appoint from December 8 to 17. According to the law, the presidential elections themselves must take place on March 17, 2024.

“Direct Line with Vladimir Putin” is a format in which the president answers questions from Russians and foreigners live. In 2022, there was no “direct line” and a big press conference with the participation of the president. In early August, Peskov reported that the “direct line” could be combined with a large press conference, but there was no exact decision on this issue yet.
