Peskov commented on Scholz’s promise to monitor weapons supplied to Ukraine

Germany does not have the ability to monitor the use of weapons supplied to Ukraine, Kyiv is already striking at Russian territory. This statement was made by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

“Firstly, Germany does not have the ability to follow this. This can be said unambiguously. Secondly, the weapons supplied by Germany to the Kyiv regime are already firing at Russian territory, because Donbass is a Russian region,” he said.

Peskov noted the increase in the “direct and indirect involvement” of Germany in the conflict in Ukraine every day. He added that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz should understand this.

On May 1, during a meeting with residents of the city, Bendorf Scholz listed the previously provided assistance to Ukraine from Germany and stressed that Berlin always coordinates actions with partners.

Besides, added German Chancellor, the German authorities adhere to the rule that weapons supplied to Ukraine for defense “should not be used to attack Russian territory.” He noted that it is important to prevent the escalation of the conflict between Russia and NATO.

After the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, Western countries imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia and began to provide military assistance to Ukraine. In particular, at the end of January, Germany announced on the supply of 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv. In February, Der Spiegel, citing sources wrotethat the German government approved sending another 178 Leopard 1 main battle tanks to Ukraine.

The Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of military equipment and weapons to Ukraine. The Russian Foreign Ministry warned that pumping Ukraine with weapons brings NATO closer to the dangerous line of a direct military clash with Russia.
