Japan’s new sanctions against Russia will not bring anything terrible, but they will worsen the already sad state of relations, said presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
“Japan, in fact, from the very beginning of this situation, took its place in the circle of countries unfriendly to us. She continues this sanctions line. We are more and more adapting to life under these sanctions, elements of compensatory measures are being included for the economy and social aspects, etc., so such decisions do not bring us anything terrible,” the Kremlin spokesman said.
According to Peskov, bilateral relations between countries “which are already in a very sad state” will worsen even more from sanctions. Russia will be guided by its own interests in developing reciprocal steps, he added.
Japan earlier expanded sanctions against Russia by banning the export of vaccines, medical equipment and robots to the country from February 3. The ban includes radioactive materials, equipment for nuclear facilities, oil and natural gas exploration, as well as portable power generators, drilling rigs, etc. It is noted that the restrictions also affected substances that can be used as raw materials for the production of chemicals for military purposes.
In addition, the Japanese Foreign Ministry announced the introduction of personal sanctions against 22 Russian citizens and three companies, their assets will be frozen. In particular, the commissioner for children’s rights under the President of Russia Maria Lvova-Belova, Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mizintsev, Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Russia Ella Pamfilova and others were included in the black list.
