Peskov called the new US defense budget destabilizing

The record-breaking $858 billion defense budget adopted by the United States is a destabilizing document that is confrontational towards Russia, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
“The adopted document is extremely confrontational in relation to our country. An unprecedented confrontational nature, which, of course, is fraught with quite serious and long-term consequences for further destabilization of the situation on the European continent,” he said.
Today, relevant committees of the US Congress agreed a draft defense budget for fiscal year 2023 of $858 billion, which could be the highest in the history of the country. In particular, it is planned to allocate $2.7 billion to increase the production of ammunition and temporarily lift some restrictions on their supply to Ukraine, as well as $800 million to help Ukraine. In addition, the draft budget, among other things, includes the allocation of funds for the “containment” of Russia in Europe – $ 6 billion will be allocated for this purpose.
In addition, the project extends for 5 years the ban on US cooperation with Russia in the military sphere and involves steps to exclude the Russian Federation from international organizations, in particular the G20. It also follows from the document that Washington intends to reduce its dependence on Russian energy supplies.
The US defense budget for fiscal year 2022 was $778 billion. The draft budget for fiscal year 2023, approved by the relevant committees of the US Congress, must now be approved by congressmen and senators. After that, the document will be signed by US President Joe Biden.
