Peskov called the agreement with Kyrgyzstan on a unified air defense system an achievement

The agreement between Russia and Kyrgyzstan on the creation of a unified regional air defense system will be a great achievement, said Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov.
“This is a joint air defense system <...> This is a great achievement for both Russia and Kyrgyzstan. This is very important, given that Russia and Kyrgyzstan, in addition to allied relations, we are also part of many common integration associations. Of course, such joint security elements are very important,” he told reporters in Bishkek.
The Russian government approved the draft agreement on a joint air defense system with Kyrgyzstan prepared by the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in July 2022. The document stated that the authorized bodies of the parties must jointly approve which troops they will allocate to the joint system. To accommodate Russian forces, Kyrgyzstan will allocate 5 hectares of land to Russia free of charge for the duration of the agreement. In July of the same year, the order to sign an agreement with Kyrgyzstan was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Parliament of Kyrgyzstan on October 11 considered and accepted bill on ratification of the agreement. The site, it was clarified in parliament, will be allocated next to the Russian airbase in the city of Kant. To ratify the agreement, it must be signed by the President of the Republic.
On October 12, negotiations between the Presidents of Russia and Kyrgyzstan Vladimir Putin and Sadyr Japarov took place in Bishkek. The leaders of the two countries also took part in an event dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Russian military air base in Kant. On October 13, Putin will take part in a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS, which will be held in a limited and expanded format. The leaders of the CIS countries will sum up the results of their work in 2023, identify new directions and discuss international and regional topics, the Kremlin specified. Following the meeting, a package of documents will be signed.
