Military correspondents who cover events on the front line, risking their lives, are heroes, said press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.

During a conversation with journalists, he was asked to comment on the situation with surveillance of the family of military correspondent Alexander Kots.

“Look, our military officers are truly heroes. Not only are they risking their lives on the front lines, covering the events, telling not only you and me, but the whole world about what is happening there, but they are also risking their lives at home, in local conditions. What happened with Kots and his family eloquently testifies to this,” Peskov said.

The Kremlin representative also called for trust in the special services in countering the terrorist activities of the Ukrainian side, emphasizing the need to independently observe precautions.

November 9 Butyrsky Court of Moscow sent Leonid Gutarov, who is accused of spying on Kots, is under house arrest until January 7. Initially, an investigation was opened under an article on obstructing the professional activities of a journalist, but later another charge was brought – violating privacy (Part 1 of Article 137 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The man allegedly admitted guilt. According to investigators, Gutarov spied on Kots’ family for several days and also tried to deceive his wife for information about the military correspondent’s work.
