Bans from a number of EU countries on the entry of cars with Russian license plates are absurd and have a negative impact on relations with Moscow, said presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov.

When asked whether there would be any retaliatory actions, Peskov said that Russia should do what is best for it, and “not every time it should be a mirror reaction.”

“But, of course, such completely absurd decisions once again have a negative impact on our relations, which are already in a deplorable state. And, by the way, the leaderships of these countries who make such decisions are far from flattering,” the Kremlin representative emphasized.

A number of EU countries with reference to Art. 3i of EU Council Regulation No. 833/2014, which prohibits the import of a number of goods from Russia into the member states of the union, introduced a ban on the entry of passenger cars with Russian registration. In particular, this was announced by Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, Norway, and Bulgaria. In addition, it is known about two cases of confiscation of a Russian car – one in Germany and one in the Czech Republic.

Minister of Justice of Latvia Inese Libiņa-Egnere reportedthat the ministry will prepare a bill prohibiting the presence in the country of cars registered in Russia and Belarus. In turn, Lithuanian customs obliged owners of cars registered in Russia must take them out of the republic and the European Union within six months from the date of arrival.
