The reliability of the entire Nord Stream system is in jeopardy, and it’s not the fault of the “Gazprom“. This statement was made by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.
The journalists asked the Kremlin representative if it was worth waiting for new repair work on the gas pipeline in the near future.
“There are no technological reserves, one turbine is working, so think about it. Actually, there is no reservation, not through the fault of Gazprom. Therefore, accordingly, the reliability of the entire system is under threat, ”Peskov said (quote according to RIA Novosti).
Earlier, the spokesman said that the situation with Nord Stream can be explained by the “irrational” actions of the European authorities. At the same time, according to him, “ordinary citizens” have to pay for the decisions of the authorities.
In mid-June, gas supplies through the pipeline decreased to 40%. This happened because the company Siemens was unable to return the repaired turbine from Canada to the company. The problem with the return of the turbine to Gazprom has more than once caused a reduction in gas supplies via Nord Stream. Already at the end of July, gas pumping was reduced by another 20%.
August 31 “Gazprom» stopped the only gas pumping unit that works at Portovaya due to scheduled repairs. If no technical faults are found, gas pumping will resume on September 3rd.
Because of the sanctions imposed against Russia, Canada cannot return the equipment to Russia. As a result of negotiations with Germany, Ottawa agreed to transfer all six turbines undergoing maintenance in Montreal to Gazprom and sent one of them to Germany. However, the turbine was never accepted by Gazprom due to legal uncertainty.
In Germany, they say that the turbine is ready for shipment. In early August, Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Russia could take her away at any time, all that was needed was her participation.
