The date for the Russian presidential elections has not yet been set, but they will take place in any case. This was stated by presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov during a regular briefing.
“The special situation, including in our new regions, requires additional legislative initiatives and decisions,” Peskov clarified.
In response to the question of when the elections will be announced, the press secretary emphasized that the elections are not announced by the Kremlin.
October 8, head of the Federation Council commission on protecting state sovereignty and preventing interference in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation Andrey Klimov reportedthat the date of the presidential elections will likely be announced by the Federation Council in December.
On October 23, the State Duma changed the procedure for holding elections under martial law. Deputies supported amendments to the second reading of the law on basic guarantees of citizens’ electoral rights.
Presidential elections in Russia are scheduled for 2024. According to the law, the procedure takes place on the third Sunday in March, so next year the elections could take place on March 17. The CEC has already begun preparations for the elections, CEC Chairman Ella Pamfilova said earlier.
