Peskov announced the continuation of work on the settlement between Baku and Yerevan

Russia continues to work to resolve the situation between Baku and Yerevan and performs the functions of a security guarantor in the region. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
“Russia continues to fulfill its functions as a security guarantor. Russia continues scrupulous, consistent, constructive work both with Yerevan and Baku,” he stressed.
Peskov noted that in such a situation, the holding of the Armenian-American exercises “does not contribute to stabilizing the situation and strengthening the atmosphere of mutual trust.”
Earlier today, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Azerbaijan had concentrated troops on the border with Armenia and the dividing line with Nagorno-Karabakh. He called on the international community and UN countries to “take serious measures to prevent a new explosion” in the region.
The aggravation of the situation comes against the backdrop of plans to hold joint military exercises between the United States and Armenia from September 11 to 20 as part of “preparation for participation in international peacekeeping missions.” The Kremlin said the news was cause for concern and added that Moscow would monitor the situation.
On September 3, Pashinyan, in an interview with the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, said that Russia was moving away from the South Caucasus, and Russian peacekeepers did not control the Lachin corridor. In the Kremlin disagreed with the words of the prime minister, emphasizing that the Russian Federation is “an integral part of this region”, and therefore cannot leave it.
On May 25, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, through the mediation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, discussed relations between the two countries in the Kremlin, but did not adopt a joint statement at the end of the day. At the same time, as Aliyev noted, after Armenia’s statements on the recognition of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, the issue of agreeing on the points of the peace treaty will go “much easier.”
