The draft of the updated Concept of Russia’s foreign policy is being supplemented, press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov said. It is not yet clear when this might happen.
“It will be supplemented, the work will be finalized. There will be a certain addition,” the Kremlin spokesman said. Peskov also added that the document could be approved by presidential decree without holding a “big” meeting of the Security Council.
At the end of December 2022, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova statedthat Moscow, when preparing the draft concept of foreign policy, took into account the new strategic concept of NATO. She also noted that the Russian concept is based on such principles as consistency, independence, multi-vector approach, openness, predictability, pragmatism and reliance on national interests.
Alexey Drobinin, Director of the Department of Foreign Policy Planning of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, in turn, clarifiedthat the new concept could be unveiled in early 2023.
The latest concept of foreign policy was accepted in 2016. Among the main tasks were the provision of Russia’s sovereignty, the formation of good neighborly relations with some states, the prevention of discrimination against Russian goods and services, etc.
