Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov commented material American newspaper The New York Times, in which he quotes that Vladimir Putin “will be re-elected next year with more than 90% of the vote.”
“No, this was absolutely incorrectly interpreted by the author of this article,” Dmitry Peskov told TASS, answering a question about the authenticity of the quote. He confirmed that he met with the NYT journalist, and one of the questions was about the elections.
“And the answer was the following: that the level of consolidation of society around the president is absolutely unprecedented, and even now we can say that if he is nominated, he will be re-elected with a huge advantage,” Peskov explained.
Russian presidential elections are scheduled for March 17, 2024. Vladimir Putin did not announce plans to participate in the elections. On June 8, Dmitry Peskov told TASS that Mr. Putin would promptly announce the decision to participate in the elections.
