Peskov accused the Armed Forces of creating a threat around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant

The threat to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is posed by those who shell the power plant, that is, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), said Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the President of Russia.

“Speaking about the security zone, one should only talk about those who are shelling this station. Who is the threat? Who is shooting at her? She is shelled by artillery of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is what needs to be demanded from Ukraine – to withdraw heavy weapons, to stop shelling, ”he said.

Peskov also noted that now there are no “significant progress” in the issue of creating a security zone around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. He also drew attention to the fact that the IAEA specialists are “unauthorized” to say who exactly is conducting the shelling.

“But here it is very important that everyone take a sober look at what is happening and be aware that the Ukrainian armed forces are shelling a nuclear power plant, they are committing actions that are fraught with a threat to nuclear, environmental and other security for vast territories. This cannot but cause our extreme concern. Russia will continue the dialogue with the IAEA,” he stressed.

On the eve, November 21, the general director of Rosatom Alexei Likhachev warned about the risk of a nuclear accident at the Zaporizhzhya NPP against the backdrop of shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which resumed last weekend. Then Peskov notedthat Moscow is concerned about the aggravation of the situation around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. The Kremlin spokesman said that all countries of the world need to influence Kyiv so that the Ukrainian military stops shelling the station.

Advisor to the General Director of Rosenergoatom Concern Renata Karchaa November 20 informedthat 15 arrivals were recorded, including those from the special building No. 2, where fresh nuclear fuel is stored.

In mid-October, the head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi informed, which considers it possible to create a safe zone around the Zaporozhye NPP before the end of the year. Earlier, Acting Governor of the Zaporozhye Region Yevgeny Balitsky said that there were no plans to launch ZNPP in the near future. According to him, in the current conditions, until the front line is pushed back at least 100 km, there is no possibility to create a “security zone” around the station.
