Permanent representative Ulyanov: from this year Europe will live without Russian oil

Russia will no longer supply oil to European countries amid the establishment of a price ceiling for energy resources, said Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna. He called the restriction introduced by the European Union (EU) anti-market.

“From this year Europe will live without Russian oil. Moscow has already made it clear that it will not supply oil to those countries that support anti-market price caps. Wait, very soon the EU will accuse Russia of using oil as a weapon,” Mr. Ulyanov wrote on his Twitter.

Yesterday, December 2, the European Council finally agreed on the introduction of a price ceiling for Russian oil at $60 per barrel with a review mechanism. The price ceiling is seen by European countries as a tool to weaken the economic potential of Russia to make it difficult to finance hostilities in Ukraine.

The agreed price limit was criticized by both Russian and Ukrainian sides. RF officials accused The EU is in violation of the principles of the free market and warned about the impossibility of supplying an energy resource at a lower cost. Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak declaredthat it cost $30 per barrel to set the ceiling in order to “destroy the enemy’s economy faster.”
