Pentagon: US is developing defenses against hypersonic weapons

The United States of America is trying to develop its own means of combating hypersonic weapons. This was stated in an interview with a journalist by US Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks. She stressed that “serious funds” were directed to these studies. And the Pentagon wants to be sure that it is able to protect the country from hypersonic weapons.
At the same time, the development of our own weapons of this type is underway. According to Hicks, there is “promising progress” in several programs at once. However, she refused to compare American and Russian missiles, arguing that she did not want to think “within the framework of an arms race.”
The Pentagon spokeswoman added that the US has its own concept of using hypersonic weapons in combat. And it differs significantly from the Russian and Chinese approaches.
Hypersonic missile weapons are capable of moving at speeds in excess of 1.6 km/s. And at the same time maneuver using aerodynamic forces. Russia has 5 variants of such weapons. Two more are in the process of development and will soon also enter the army. The US has been developing since the late 1980s. So far, however, all tests have failed.
