The decision on the transfer of ATACMS long-range missiles to Kyiv has not yet been made, RIA Novosti reports, citing a Pentagon representative.
At the same time, the Pentagon stated that the US and Ukrainian authorities are constantly in touch on issues of the military needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Earlier, media reported that US authorities are studying the possibility of transferring long-range missiles to Ukraine this fall. It was also reported that Kyiv is putting pressure on the United States, hoping to obtain approval for the supply of ATACMS for the UN General Assembly, which will be held from September 19 to 26.
ABC News reported that Washington is currently leaning towards making a decision to transfer ATACMS missiles to Kyiv. With reference to representatives of the American authorities, it was reported that the current administration may well make such a decision, and the missiles may already be part of a new package of military assistance to the Kyiv regime. At the same time, the story notes that plans may change, and the timing of the transfer of these missiles to the Armed Forces of Ukraine may take months. Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that he had discussed with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken the allocation of such weapons with a range of up to 300 km.
Russia warned NATO countries about arms supplies to Kyiv. In a statement, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that any cargo that contains weapons for Ukraine would be a legitimate target for Russia.
