Nine Western countries pledged to transfer over 150 German-made Leopard tanks to Ukraine in total. This was announced by the head of the Pentagon Lloyd Austin during a regular meeting with representatives of donor countries of military assistance to Kyiv.

“The coalition of countries that donate Leopard tanks to Ukraine continues to grow. Nine countries have already committed to providing more than 150 Leopard tanks,” the US Defense Secretary said.

At the same time, Austin during his statement did not mention the Abrams tanks, which Washington promised to transfer to Ukraine. The head of the Pentagon added that due to Western assistance, Ukraine will be able to form “over nine brigades of tanks and other armored vehicles.”

The intention to transfer tanks to Ukraine was announced at the end of January by the United States and Germany. Later, the German government approved the re-export to other countries that have Leopard tanks, to Kyiv.
