The press service of the US Department of Defense reported that an unidentified balloon seen in US airspace on April 28 did not pose any threat, therefore it was not shot down.
“The US military is monitoring a balloon of unknown origin that flew over US territory … The Secretary of Defense agreed with the recommendation of the military command not to take any action against the balloon,” the Pentagon said.
The US military department clarified that at present the balloon is outside the airspace and territorial waters of Hawaii, its type and “citizenship” are not known.
