Former US Vice President, Republican Mike Pence announced his refusal to participate in the presidential elections in 2024, he decided to wind down his election campaign, writes The Hill.

“It became clear to me that my time had not yet come. I have decided to wind down my presidential campaign effective today,” Pence said at the Republican Jewish Coalition conference.

“I will say to the American people: this is not my time, but your time has not been canceled,” he added.

Pence decided to withdraw from the presidential race amid his failure to beat his GOP rivals in the polls. He announced the start of his presidential campaign in early June, promising “different leadership,” while noting his experience as a congressman, governor of Indiana, and work in the White House. He said he was proud of the work of former President Donald Trump’s administration, which he was a part of, although he frequently criticized his former boss after his 2020 election loss.

The publication notes that Pence advocated tightening restrictions on abortion, as well as supplying American weapons to Ukraine; on these issues they disagreed with Trump. He also stated the need to review government social support and health insurance programs. However, his views have failed to attract enough supporters, as evidenced by low levels of support in the polls, and he has had trouble finding donors to support the campaign financially. Among Republicans, Trump leads by a wide margin on both measures.
