Patrushev called Ukraine involved in the undermining of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station

Undermining the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station is “another planned terrorist attack” by the Ukrainian authorities. This was stated by the Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev, writes TASS.

“Blowing up the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station is another planned terrorist attack by the Kyiv regime aimed at destroying civilians and civilian infrastructure,” Patrushev said at a meeting with State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Alexander Volfovich.

He added that Ukrainian troops have been shelling Novaya Kakhovka, which is located near the station, for more than a year. At the same time, Patrushev noted that the peoples of Russia and Ukraine are not waging any war among themselves, and this is outright US aggression. According to him, Ukraine is “only a tool in the hands of the West.”

Previously, about the involvement of Kyiv in the destruction of the hydroelectric power station stated Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. She also called the explosion of the dam a terrorist attack, which the Ukrainian authorities had planned in advance. Zakharova added that the final assessment of what happened will be given by the investigation, which will establish all the circumstances. On the fact of the incident, the Investigative Committee of Russia earlier opened a criminal case on a terrorist attack.

The breakthrough of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station occurred on the night of June 6. As a result of the incident, an uncontrolled discharge of water began, the level of which was about 11 m. Earlier, an emergency regime was introduced in the district, and an emergency regime was also introduced on the territory of the Kherson region. On June 7, the administration of the Novokakhovka district reported that the water level in Novaya Kakhovka began to decline after the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station.

After the incident, the Russian and Ukrainian sides were accused of undermining each other. The Kremlin called it a deliberate sabotage by Kyiv and emphasized that the Russian side denied accusations that it was allegedly involved in this incident. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that the country will convene an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council because of the situation around the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. Russia will take similar actions.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu called the incident “another terrorist crime” of Ukraine and noted that the incident would have severe and long-term consequences for the environment.
