Patrushev announced Ukraine’s attempts to attack three nuclear power plants in Russia

Kyiv has already made attempts to attack the Leningrad, Kalinin and Kursk nuclear power plants. Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev announced this at a meeting with CIS colleagues in Moscow.

“The lack of success on the battlefield is forcing Kyiv to increasingly resort to terrorist methods, including assassinations and murders of Russian citizens, attacks on civilian objects and critical infrastructure,” he noted (quote according to TASS).

Ukraine has already tried several times to attack the Kursk nuclear power plant, which is located in Kurchatov. The previous time the station was attacked with three drones was on October 26. Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova statedthat as a result “the walls of the nuclear waste storage facility were damaged.” Two more drones fell on a complex of administrative buildings. At the same time, the plant’s press service emphasized that the nuclear power plant is operating normally.

Also in May 2023, the Russian FSB reported about the disruption of sabotage by the Ukrainian special services at two nuclear power plants on the eve of the celebration of Victory Day on May 9. The attackers tried to undermine more than 30 supports of high-voltage power lines (power lines) of the Leningrad and Kalinin nuclear power plants, which are located in the Leningrad and Tver regions.

As a result, two citizens of Ukraine were detained, another attacker (a citizen of Ukraine and the Russian Federation) was put on the wanted list. The FSB also detained two accomplices who helped the saboteurs with vehicles and fake registration numbers. They are citizens of Ukraine. A criminal case has been initiated against members of the DRG under Part 1 of Art. 281 (sabotage) and part 1 of Art. 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal acquisition, sale and storage of explosives or explosive devices).
