Patriarch Kirill called for a Christmas truce

Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ Kirill called for a ceasefire and a Christmas truce in Ukraine and Donbass, transmits press service of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC).
“I, Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’, appeal to all parties involved in the internecine conflict with an appeal to cease fire and establish a Christmas truce from 12.00 on January 6 to 24.00 on January 7, so that Orthodox people can attend services on Christmas Eve and on the day Christmas,” the message says.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier that the possibility of a truce with Ukraine during the New Year holidays is not being considered, because no such proposals have been received.
After that, Alexei Gromov, Deputy Head of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasizedthat Kyiv does not intend to cease fire during the New Year period. According to him, a “complete ceasefire” on the territory of the country and in the Donbass will come only after not a single Russian military “leaves on the ground.”
Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals.
