Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said he is ready to negotiate with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on de-escalation on the border. This is what he’s talking about said during a telephone conversation with French leader Emmanuel Macron.
“Prime Minister Pashinyan expressed his readiness to hold urgent discussions with the President of Azerbaijan aimed at reducing tensions,” the press service of the Armenian prime minister said in a statement.
Pashinyan also confirmed Yerevan’s commitment to agreements to resolve all issues exclusively through diplomatic means.
On September 7, Pashinyan announced the “continuation of the policy of encroachment” on the territory of Armenia by Azerbaijan, which by its actions demonstrates “the intention to start a new military provocation.” The Armenian prime minister also called on members of the UN Security Council to prevent escalation. According to him, Azerbaijan has concentrated troops on the border with Armenia and the dividing line with Nagorno-Karabakh.
Baku considered the statements of the Armenian leadership “false political manipulation.” The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry believes that Yerevan continues military-political provocations and maintains claims against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan.
Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, in turn, stated that Moscow continues to work scrupulously with Yerevan and Baku and serves as a guarantor of security in the region.
Since the end of August, Baku and Yerevan have accused each other of shelling. As a result of the latest armed clash on September 1, four Armenian servicemen were killed in the area of the Armenian village of Sotk, the Armenian Ministry of Defense reported.
