Like reported “b”, the parliament of the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) today, December 30, adopted a new constitution. The document was supported by all 43 deputies present at the meeting of the People’s Council.
According to Kommersant’s information, the document stipulates that the head of the LPR will not be elected by direct popular vote, as was assumed since the adoption of the first constitution in 2014, but through parliament. According to another interlocutor, the same clause will be in the constitution of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), which the People’s Council of the republic will also adopt on December 30.
Referendums on the entry of the LPR and three other former regions of Ukraine – the DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions – into Russia were held from September 23 to 27. According to the results of the plebiscite, the decision to join the Russian Federation in the LPR was supported by 98.42% of those who voted, in the DPR – 99.23%, in the Kherson region – 87.05%, in the Zaporozhye region – 93.11%.
