Financial support for Burkina Faso by France has been suspended after the authorities of the African country threatened to withdraw from the Economic Community of West African Countries (ECOWAS) if there was a military aggression against Niger.
According to Agence France-Presse, this decision was made in Paris after a joint statement by the governments of Burkina Faso and Mali to withdraw from ECOWAS in the event of intervention in Niger.
Earlier, by its decision, ECOWAS gave the authorities of Niger a week to ensure that President Mohamed Bazuma, who was removed from office by the rebels, returned to power. Otherwise, the organization plans to use force to restore constitutional order. It is also reported that a possible plan for military intervention has already been developed.
