Politico: France accused the European Union of protests by farmers over Ukrainian imports
French President Emmanuel Macron’s team has increasingly blamed European Union (EU) rules for growing discontent and protests by local farmers. This was reported by Politico.
In particular, Paris called for the abandonment of certain measures, including limiting the import of food products from Ukraine. The French authorities also called for stopping insisting on concluding a trade agreement with the countries of South America that are part of the MERCOSUR bloc (Common Market of South America – editor’s note). In Paris, they are perceived as a threat to local agriculture.
Macron also plans to include farmer protests on the agenda of the meeting of EU leaders. It will take place in Brussels on February 1 this year.
Earlier, French farmers protested a supermarket was filled with manure.
During their strikes, farmers are demanding higher wages and lower fuel taxes.
