Palestine’s permanent representative to the EU explained the importance of Abbas’s visit to Moscow

The upcoming visit of Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas to Moscow is important, since Russia’s opinion on the Palestinian issue is listened to in the world. This statement was made by the permanent representative of the autonomy to the European Union and ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg Abd al-Rahim al-Farra.

As the diplomat emphasized, “this is an important visit that will take place within the framework of existing coordination on the Palestinian issue.” Abd al-Rahim al-Farra recalled that Moscow calls for a settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the coexistence of two states.

In addition, Abbas’s visit to Moscow “is aimed at ensuring that Russia can defend the rights of the Palestinians, being a permanent member of the UN Security Council,” the Palestinian permanent representative indicated.

Back in 2022, Vladimir Putin, during a conversation with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, emphasized the importance of restarting direct dialogue between Palestine and Israelincluding under the auspices of the Quartet of international mediators.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed the preparations for Abbas’s visit to Moscow, emphasizing that it was planned even before the escalation of the situation in the Middle East. At the same time, the dates of the autonomy leader’s trip to the Russian capital not yet determined.
