The Spanish newspaper El Pais reports, citing sources, that the Ukrainian authorities are considering holding parliamentary and presidential elections in the spring of 2024.
Sources close to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry told the journalists of the publication that this idea is connected with the desire to “legitimize the president and his new government,” since the end of the conflict is already approaching.
In Kyiv, they fear that problems with corruption will affect the rating of Vladimir Zelensky, so they want to hold elections earlier. In addition, according to the publication, on the eve of possible negotiations with Russia, the regime representing Ukraine should receive a people’s mandate.
