Outbreak in China after COVID-19 policy easing

China has experienced its worst surge in COVID-19 infections in six months, Reuters reported Nov. 22. This time, the infection spread in Beijing and resulted in the death of three people. The first case since May 26 was recorded by the National Health Commission of China on November 20: an 87-year-old Beijing man died of coronavirus.
The official number of deaths from COVID-19 in China for the entire period of the pandemic reached 5229 people by November 22. After 316 infections were reported in Beijing on November 20, authorities announced a lockdown in the city’s most populated area. Businesses were closed and schools were homeschooled. According to Reuters, on November 20, the number of cases reached 26,824 people – almost the same as during the peak of the pandemic: on April 11, 27,595 cases of infection were registered.
