The Orsk Oil Refinery (ORP) suspended operations due to an abnormal flood, the plant’s press service told RIA Novosti. Work has been stopped to avoid environmental risks and to comply with safety regulations.

The Orsky Refinery is part of the structure of Forteinvest JSC in the industrial block of the Safmar group. The production capacity of the plant is 5 million 760 thousand tons per year. Oil refining is carried out using the fuel option.

On the evening of April 5, due to heavy flooding in Orsk, a bulk dam on the Ural River broke. By the morning of April 6, half of the Old City was flooded. In the evening of the same day, the second embankment dam broke in Orsk, and an urgent evacuation was announced in the village of Nikel. According to operational services, the total in the Orenburg region flooded 6.3 thousand residential buildings, more than 4 thousand people were evacuated.
