The head of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, Alexander Kurenkov, stated the need to take measures to prevent the rise in food prices in the Orenburg region affected by floods. He also proposed temporarily banning the sale of alcoholic beverages in flooded areas.
“It is important to take measures to prevent speculative increases in prices for food, basic necessities and building materials. It is also important to consider the issue of a temporary ban on the sale of alcohol,” said Alexander Kurenkov at a meeting of the government commission for the prevention and elimination of emergencies.
Today, April 7, the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations arrived in Orsk, where dams broke on the Ural River on April 5 and 6. In the Orenburg region, a federal-level emergency regime is in effect and evacuation is being carried out. In total, according to operational services, 6.3 thousand residential buildings were flooded, more than 4 thousand people were evacuated, and 510 people, including 116 children, are in temporary accommodation centers.
