Orientalist Lyamin warned of an imminent Iranian attack on US bases

The expert predicted a confrontation on the brink of war

The American army launched missile attacks on Iranian military bases in Syria on October 27. Orientalist Yuri Lyamin gave a comment to MK and explained the reason for the attack by US troops on facilities occupied by the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

– Will Iran respond to the American strikes inflicted on it?

– Yes, we can expect new warning strikes on American bases from Iran. Immediately after the United States attacked Iranian military bases, literally two or three hours later, reports appeared that one of the American bases in eastern Syria was fired at by rockets from pro-Iranian groups.

The United States has previously carried out strikes in those places during moments of deterioration in US-Iranian relations. The situation in this region is now very tense.

– US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that the strikes had nothing to do with the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Do you think they can be trusted?

“They cannot be unrelated because the American attack is a response to the daily single attacks by Iranian kamikaze drones on US military bases.” Similar attacks began on October 17 and continue to this day.

The US government’s statement is untrue: the exchange of strikes between the US and Iran is directly related to the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

It all started with the fact that the Americans sent two aircraft carrier groups with additional aircraft to the shores of the Middle East, as if warning Iran not to interfere in the confrontation between Israel and Hamas. On the other hand, Hezbollah, one of the main pro-Iranian forces, is already involved in this conflict. Every day there are military clashes with Israel, there are deaths on both sides.

That’s why Iran launched warning single attacks on American bases. This is a warning that Iran and its allies have weapons with which they can launch a major attack on the United States in the region.

At first, the Americans simply ignored the Iranian attacks, but today they decided to attack IRGC bases with the same goal: to mark their own red line. It turns out that both sides want the same thing – to prevent the enemy from participating in the flaring conflict in the Middle East.

But since the situation is already quite tense, it can lead to further escalation: they will respond with a “response” for the strike inflicted earlier, as a result of which the number of strikes on enemy bases will increase significantly.

– How do you assess the possibility of starting a big war in the East?

– Both the United States and Iran do not want a full-scale war. They simply do not benefit from such a scenario. These countries will try their best not to lead the situation to a major conflict, but at the same time, both sides have extensive experience in tough confrontation on the brink of war.

One may recall the assassination by the Americans of Iranian General Soleimani in 2020 in response to Iran’s attack on an American base in Iraq. In 1987-1988, the situation also led to serious armed clashes between Iran and the United States, but at sea in the Persian Gulf region.

Most likely, there will not be a full-scale war between these countries, but the violent confrontation will not stop in the near future and, perhaps, will only intensify. However, there is always a threat that for various reasons the red line will be crossed and the situation will completely get out of control.

The US armed forces launched two missile attacks on bases occupied by the IRGC in the area of ​​the Syrian province of Abu Kamal, located quite close to the Iraqi border. Previously, pro-Iranian forces attacked four US military bases in Syria with drones on October 23.
