Alexander Kalinin, President of the all-Russian organization of small and medium-sized businesses “Support of Russia”, believes that the list of activities that allow the application of the tax regime for the self-employed should be expanded.
A special tax regime – the Professional Income Tax (PIT) – appeared in 2019 in an experimental regime for ten years. Individuals and individual entrepreneurs who have switched to the status of self-employed pay from their income at a reduced rate of 4% and 6%, respectively.
“We believe that it is necessary to expand the list of activities for which a self-employed person can work. For example, why is it possible to rent an apartment, but not an apartment? Our tourism market is 50% black, they pay nothing. Sorry, but they won’t pay 13%, and they would pay 4%,” Mr. Kalinin said at the plenary session of the Russian Entrepreneurship 2023: Window of Opportunity forum (quoted from TASS).
He also recalled that at the end of 2022, the self-employed paid about 50 billion rubles. taxes. According to Mr. Kalinin, 80% of the total number of self-employed did not pay the corresponding taxes at all before the regime came into being.
On March 23, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced that the tax regime for the self-employed would be extended beyond 2028. In April, the idea was supported by the Ministry of Economy.
