Israel’s Supreme Court invalidates one of the key laws of judicial reform
On January 1, the Israeli Supreme Court (SC) invalidated one of the key judicial reform laws of the current government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Radio station Kan reports this.
It is noted that this is the first time in the history of the country that an amendment to the fundamental law has been repealed, which provides for the abolition of the principle of reasonableness and limits the ability of the Supreme Court to control the decisions of the executive branch.
It is reported that eight of the fifteen judges of the panel of the Israeli Supreme Court voted for the decision to repeal the amendment. Also, 12 out of 15 judges approved the intervention of the Supreme Court in the process of revising the country’s fundamental laws, which form the basis of the future constitution, but in exceptional cases.
