Kommersant Style follows the return of the popular trend of the 1970s and finds out who suits the mustache and how to properly care for them.

Explaining “why Volodya shaved off his mustache” is not required lately – on the contrary, no one shaves off the mustache, but reverently grows it, and all because they have become a new trend. Let us recall the fashion of the late 1970s and early 1980s: all members of the Soviet vocal and instrumental ensembles (“Pesnyary”, “Leysya, song”, “Gems”) necessarily showed mustaches of a certain pomp, but how to forget D’Artagnan from the film adaptation of “Three Musketeers? On the Western stage they were worn by Freddie Mercury, members of Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers. Anthony Kiedis and now no, no, yes, he will return to his former image, and, I must say, his mustache is very to his face. “The mustache is the second bang,” says Vladimir Akopdzhanov, top stylist at the Fonte beauty salon. “They either go into fashion or go out of it. It seems to me that this trend is determined by the preferences of celebrities or their screen images: remember, for example, the latest releases of Brad Pitt or films about Poirot. Russian celebrities perform cooler than Western ones – Alexander Gudkov seems to have already been born with a mustache, so they suit him.

It is impossible to ignore the growing demand for the fashion of the 1970s: flared trousers, bright shirts, puffy elongated haircuts and mustaches. However, in addition to fashion, there is also a purely practical application: it is believed that the mustache gives the face masculinity, which, in turn, gives their owner self-confidence. In addition, “moustaches often hide imperfect teeth and visually reduce a large nose,” adds Vladimir Akopdzhanov, and advises their owners not to forget to wash them every day and periodically moisten them with special products, “so that they lie and not look at their neighbor.” In general, you should perceive the mustache as the final spectacular touch of your image, as a kind of accessory that you still have to part with anyway, because you just get bored and want to change.
