At the height of summer, surprisingly few outings are offered to potential spectators. We feel the industry, in need of attendance, concentrating its forces to better rebound at the start of the school year. A choice of four films is still open to curiosity. A feminist thriller, adapted from the bestseller by zoologist Delia Owens. Two ecological dystopias, one animated, the other in real shots, which are rather timely. Finally, a revival of the last century, joyful satire of theAmerican way of life, embodied by the brilliant Jack Nicholson and Harvey Keitel as dirty cops.

Trash life… And it would be more beautiful if the thick layer of pollution disappeared from the city. The inhabitants of Chimney Town (“chimney town”) could then discover the color of the sky, or admire the stars at night. But no one, apart from a few eccentric beings considered to be enlightened, believes in the existence of a space beyond the clouds.

Japanese animated film by Yusuke Hirota, On the other side of the sky tells the adventures of a little boy, Lubicchi, and a creature made from waste, Poupelle (and not Poubelle), a being with a big heart, comical and blundering, to which Philippe Katerine lends his sweet voice in the French version . The two friends will defy the authorities and their armed wing, the Inquisitors, a sort of militia responsible for monitoring the population, locked up in a smoke screen. Most men and women are unaware of the existence of the sea, the sky, spending most of their time working. Comedian and humorist known in Japan, the author very early had the desire to adapt his work to the screen, creating the buzz and even managing to organize, on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower, in Paris, in October 2019, a free exhibition of illustrations from Poupelle and the city without sky. “Where the crayfish sing”: the overused adaptation of a feminist thriller

The origin of this film, a best-seller which “defying the laws of gravity”according to American specialists: wrapped in its blanket adorned with a sunset, Where the crayfish sing surpassed sales of Stephen King and Margaret Atwood in 2019 to reach 12 million copies. That success goes to a 70-year-old fledgling novelist, American zoologist Delia Owens, known for her hard and controversial conservation work in Africa.
