United Russia has planned numerous ceremonial events for Victory Day, including “Parade at the Veteran’s House”, “Front Garden of Victory”, “Windows of Victory”, “Victory Banner”, “Letter of Victory” and others. Vedomosti got acquainted with the recommendations for State Duma deputies from “United Russia”, which were sent out by the central executive committee of the party for the regional week from May 8 to 14. They are recommended to give priority to participation in actions related to the support of veterans of the Great Patriotic War, and activities related to providing assistance to soldiers participating in a special operation in Ukraine. The authenticity of the recommendations was confirmed by one of the deputies of the faction, as well as the deputy head of the United Russia faction, Yevgeny Revenko.
State Duma deputies are advised to take part in the laying of flowers at the memorials and graves of participants in the Great Patriotic War “at the request” of the fighters of the military special operation, since they “will not be able to honor the memory of their ancestors themselves.” United Russia members will also take part in the beautification of memorials, in the Immortal Regiment Online (it will replace the Immortal Regiment’s face-to-face procession this year). Also, among the actions for State Duma deputies, they came up with the following: “Gifts to a Veteran” (delivery of gift sets “at the expense of the party’s funds”), “Call to a Veteran” (deputies of all levels congratulate veterans of the Great Patriotic War by phone). United Russia members will also take part in the action “On Victory Day for Victory”: master classes will be held on the city squares to make “camouflage nets, trench periscopes, candles, etc.”.
With the help of State Duma deputies, regional branches will also organize other actions: “Parade at the Veteran’s House” (cadets and security officials will take part in them), “Front Garden of Victory” (improvement of territories), “Victory Banner” (it will be hung out at the party offices), “Windows Victory” (designing them with the help of drawings for the holiday), etc. There will be an action “Unity of generations – unity of the country! Happy Victory Day” with the placement of billboards with a joint image of “heroes of the current special operation and the Great Patriotic War.” United Russia is recommended to focus on the veterans of the Great Patriotic War, who participated “in the liberation of the current new regions of Russia from the fascist invaders.” At the same time, concerts for special operation soldiers are planned on Victory Day, photographs of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War and participants in the special operation, etc. will be placed on the facades of schools.
The “new anti-Russian coalition has new puppeteers,” and former allies and opponents are now “all together trying to weaken Russia,” states the recommendations of the CEC of the party, which were brought to the attention of United Russia. “But their plans have already failed. <...> Russia has many allies and partners, moreover, we are expanding the scale of the international partner chain, thanks to which joint projects and new logistical ties are already being formed, ”the leadership of United Russia reminds its deputies.
And the actions and events of United Russia, timed to coincide with the celebration of Victory Day, will contribute to preserving the memory of the colossal significance of this day in the history of Russia, the price that our great-grandfathers had to pay in the name of victory, the party leadership notes. Among the events for the deputies of the State Duma have already become traditional meetings with the families of those participating in hostilities, assistance to military personnel, the implementation of the election program, etc.
Traditionally, the party and the leadership of the United Russia faction in the State Duma prepare recommendations for deputies during their work in the constituent entities of the Federation, says Revenko: “This time, Victory Day falls on the regional week, and one of the recommendations is to take part in events for the holiday. This reminder is more of a formality, since the deputies take part in them anyway.”
According to Revenko, the most important “action” is a visit to veterans of the Great Patriotic War with gratitude. Other important events include the improvement of war-related memorials and memorials, the improvement of the territory near veterans’ houses, volunteers will deliver letters to veterans, etc. “We expect the deputies to take an active part in the Victory Day events,” he adds.
“The central leadership of the party is striving for the patriotic agenda to prevail in the work of United Russia,” says political analyst Rostislav Turovsky. “The use of commemorative dates is becoming one of the main thrusts of the public campaign.” State Duma deputies believe that the patriotic agenda contributes to the growth of their popularity and becomes the main topic in interaction with society, he adds.
State Duma deputies are now on vacation. They began on April 24 and will last until May 7, and the first plenary meeting of the deputies after the vacation and the regional week is scheduled for May 16.
