Oil production at four fields suspended in Kazakhstan due to a power outage

“In connection with the shutdown of the power unit at the MAEK, oil production was partially or completely suspended at the fields of Ozenmunaigas JSC, Mangistaumunaigas JSC, Karazhanbasmunai JSC, Embamunaigas JSC in the Mangistau and Atyrau regions. Work at the wells will resume as electricity is supplied, ”the company said in a statement.
Earlier today, on July 3, the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan reported that power unit No. 1 with a load of 130 MW at the MAEK was abnormally shut down. The station supplies industry and the population of the south-west of the country with electrical and thermal energy, as well as water. Due to an accident was stopped operation of the Atyrau oil refinery, the Kazakh part of the Caspian pipeline was left without power supply.
Later, the Ministry of Energy reported that the energy supply had been restored, the energy supply to the Atyrau and Mangystau regions of Kazakhstan would be temporarily carried out from the Russian unified energy system. Repair work at the MAEK power unit will begin after 00:00 (21:00 Moscow time) on July 5.
