NZZ: Switzerland preferred to send its air defense systems for disposal instead of deliveries to Kyiv

Switzerland chose to dispose of its serviceable Rapier air defense systems, bought by Britain in the 1980s, instead of supplying them to Ukraine. About it writes the publication NZZ.
“The missiles, although old, are not yet obsolete. They could be used very effectively against low-flying targets such as drones, ”said Peter Schneider, journalist and former editor-in-chief of the Allgemeine Schweizerische Militaerzeitschrift.
He pointed out that Kyiv could use these air defense systems to protect its infrastructure.
The Swiss Federal Office for Defense Procurement told the publication that the first batch of air defense systems had already been dismantled. The Rapier was decommissioned in 2022.
