NYT: The West fears terrorist attacks during the Olympics after the events at Crocus
Newspaper The New York Times, citing its own sources, reported that because of the events in Crocus City Hall, Western officials fear terrorist attacks during the Olympic Games. The games are scheduled to take place in Paris from July 26 to August 11.
The Paris Olympics could be a good target for terrorists, according to a former UN official.
“A similar opinion is shared by other European and American specialists who deal with terrorist threats,” the newspaper dismisses.
An intelligence officer from one of the Western countries added that the main factors that could lead to a new terrorist attack are the existence of sleeper cells of the Islamic State (IS, banned in the Russian Federation) in Europe, as well as the conflict in the Gaza Strip and alleged support for militants from Russian-speaking citizens.
