“The heart says: come back. But I want a better future for my daughter,” said one of the Ukrainian refugees.
According to the NYT, there are currently 1.2 million people in Germany.
“German leaders have even recently expressed their desire to offer refugees a long-term future in the country,” the publication said.
At the same time, the publication reports that despite the large number of Ukrainians who want to stay in Germany, only about a fifth of working age work.
According to surveys, about 50% of Ukrainian refugees still hope to return to Ukraine.
