Representatives of the German government would like to start negotiations on a settlement in Ukraine, but so far they are ready to discuss this issue only in private. This was reported by The New York Times newspaper with reference to the head of the office of the European Council on Foreign Relations in Berlin, Jan Pullerin.
According to her, the German government wants solutions based on dialogue and is discussing how Russia could be seated at the negotiating table. However, German officials are raising the issue “only in private and only with trusted experts from think tanks,” the article says.
The material notes that in Berlin and Washington they want the hostilities not to drag on indefinitely, since “the political will for indefinite military and financial support to Ukraine is already beginning to fade.”
