The United States intends to negotiate with Russia on the Strategic Offensive Arms Treaty (START) “even tomorrow” if Moscow is ready for this. This was announced by US Deputy Secretary General Victoria Nuland.
“We are ready to start doing this tomorrow, if the Russian Federation is ready for this. We are also ready to allow inspections, ”Nuland said, answering the question whether the United States is ready for negotiations with the Russian Federation without accusations and preconditions.
In addition, the American diplomat noted that Moscow’s suspension of participation in START is “irresponsible.” She stressed that Russia and the United States bear a great responsibility to the whole world for maintaining the security of nuclear arsenals.
The suspension of Russia’s participation in START was announced by President Vladimir Putin during his address to the Federal Assembly on February 21.
In turn, US President Joe Biden called this decision of the Russian side “big mistake”.
