Russia may withdraw its ratification of the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT). The State Duma will consider this issue on October 17. Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that Russia has been waiting for 23 years for the treaty to be ratified by the United States. He invited all deputies to become authors of the bill. It all started with Vladimir Putin’s speech at Valdai. There, the president admitted that Russia could theoretically withdraw ratification of the treaty. He clarified that he cannot now say whether Russia needs to test nuclear weapons, although there are some and it is necessary to make sure that they are operational.
