The Norwegian government is taking steps to control the flow of refugees from Ukraine, introducing restrictions on the payment of child benefits and regulating travel between Norway and Ukraine. This was reported in an official press release on the Norwegian government website.
According to the document, in recent weeks Norway has accepted “approximately 60 percent” of all Ukrainians entering the Nordic countries. Minister of Justice and Public Security Emilie Enger Mehl said the government was taking a number of measures to reduce the number of arrivals in Norway and bring the number closer to the level in neighboring countries.
Thus, it is planned to cancel the payment of child benefits retroactively for refugees with temporary collective protection during the first year of their stay in the country. The amount of these payments previously amounted to 42 thousand crowns for a family with two children under 6 years of age.
The release also noted that restrictions on travel between Ukraine and Norway will be introduced. In case of violation of the conditions of the residence permit, the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration retains the right to revoke previously issued permits. In addition, it is planned to reduce the use of hotels as temporary reception centers for refugees.
