Nikkei: Japan will stop insuring ships in Russian waters from military clashes

The largest Japanese insurance companies from the New Year will cease to compensate for possible damage from military clashes to ships operating in the waters of Russia and Ukraine. This is reported by the Nikkei newspaper.
According to the publication, this decision was made due to the refusal of foreign reinsurance companies to sign contracts, taking into account the risks of navigation in the Russian waters.
According to experts, this situation may create problems in the delivery of LNG to Japan, which is produced under the Sakhalin-2 project. Therefore, in Tokyo, they plan to start negotiations after the Christmas holidays on the resumption of coverage for damage from military clashes so as not to disrupt the supply of liquefied natural gas.
Now Japan receives 9 percent of LNG from the Sakhalin-2 project. Almost all of this volume is used to generate electricity, providing 3 percent of its generation in the country.
