Nike sues New Balance and Skechers over patent infringement

Sportswear and footwear company Nike has sued New Balance and Skechers for intellectual property rights violations. About it reports Reuters citing Nike’s claims.
The patent infringement is related to the manufacturing technology of the upper part of Nike sneakers. The lawsuits state that New Balance and Skechers use Flyknit technology, which is owned by Nike, to make running, soccer and basketball shoes. In particular, we are talking about New Balance models from the Fresh Foam and FuelCell lines, as well as Ultra Flex and Glide Step models from Skechers.
Nike is seeking an unspecified amount of damages as well as measures to stop New Balance and Skechers from infringing the patent.
New Balance emphasized that the company “fully respects the intellectual property rights of competitors,” writes Reuters. At the same time, they noted that Nike does not have the exclusive right to produce shoes in ways “that have been used in the industry for decades.”
Previously, Nike accused Adidas, Puma and Lululemon of violating patent rights. As a result, the cases with Adidas and Puma were settled; the proceedings with Lululemon are still ongoing, Reuters clarifies.
