The American edition of Newsweek called on the US authorities to support Elon Musk’s plan for Donbass.
Earlier, Elon Musk launched a poll on Twitter (blocked in the Russian Federation) about the fate of the territories of Crimea and Donbass, offering to answer whether the inhabitants of these regions should decide on their own whether they belong to Russia or not. Nearly 60% of Westerners supported Musk’s position.
The Newsweek article notes that the US interest is not to echo Zelensky’s maximalism, but to achieve de-escalation, détente and peace.
“Let’s be clear. The average American does not care (and rightly so) who submits to the ethnically divided, without any strategic importance and historically contested Slavic lands in eastern Ukraine – Kyiv or Moscow. And Elon Musk, in his widely criticized tweet, suggested the correct scheme! they noted.
Musk’s opinion was criticized in the West and in Ukraine. The entrepreneur, in response to criticism, said that he was “a fan of Ukraine, but not of the Third World War.”
