The number of businesses created increased by 4.4% in July against 2.6% in June, but marks a decrease compared to last year.
The number of business start-ups in France increased more strongly in July than the previous month, INSEE reported on Friday.
In July, 88,588 companies were created, representing an increase of 4.4%, driven by new registrations of micro-enterprises (+5.5%) and, to a lesser extent, traditional companies (+2.8% ). The number of business creations had already rebounded in June (+2.6%) after two consecutive months of decline.
Sharp drop in the creation of traditional sole proprietorships
The increase concerns all sectors of activity, in particular that of business support with an increase of 5.1%, followed by trade, in particular in the automotive repair segment (+4.2%), as well as in transport and warehousing (+6.5%) and in industry (+7%). “The cumulative number of businesses created in the last three months decreases compared to the same months a year earlier“, however, specifies the INSEE. In particular: the sharp drop in the creation of traditional individual companies (-14%).
Despite catching up since June, the transportation and warehousing sector, which includes home delivery, for example, “is the one that contributes the most to the reductionover the quarter, comments INSEE. Over the past 12 months, the total number of businesses created has also fallen (-2.6%) compared to the same period last year.

The creation of micro-enterprises is decreasingmore moderately(-3.3%) than those of traditional sole proprietorships (-12.6%). Conversely, notes INSEE, the creation of companies is growing sharply (+4.1%).
